Joseph aged 15 suffers from auditory defensiveness, which means that he is extremely sensitive to sound. When children are oversensitive to sound, it results in fear, anxiety, and often avoidance of the activities that most other children enjoy participating in. Joseph has enormous difficulty integrating auditory information and cannot concentrate in a noisy environment. Joseph's occupational therapist has recommended the use of specialist CD's, special headphones and a CD player to help reduce his anxiety and cope better in the classroom.
