Charlotte, aged 10, has a condition known as Leukodystrophy Seizure Disorder. This rare disease destroys the protective covering around the nerves causing severe problems including impaired speech, blindness and paralysis. Added to this, she also has scoliosis and is unable to move her limbs apart from one arm and is fed through gastronomy. Charlotte has 24/7 caring support. The occupational therapist has recommended that Charlotte has a soft seating system with pressure relieving qualities so that she can be taken out of her wheelchair. The total cost is £2,127. £300 has been promised by another charity and we had no hesitation in funding the balance of £1,827 to help improve Charlotte's quality of life.
