Shepherds Down Special School, Hampshire
Provision of two "Acheeva" Learning Stations
Shepherds Down Special School is a mixed special school with 110 pupils between the ages of 4 -11 years, with a wide range of complex special needs including moderate, severe and profound learning difficulties, language and communication problems including autism and associated medical and physical and sensory difficulties. Two 'Acheeva' Learning Stations were requested, one for juniors and one for infants. Acheeva's are multi positioning pieces of equipment that allow children with profound multiple difficulties to be involved in classroom activities at the same level as their peers instead of having to lay on the floor. Children can lie straight and work in a supported balanced posture. This is an invaluable aid for most severely disabled children and we had no hesitation in funding the cost of two. Since delivery the School expressed their appreciation: Quote from Headteacher Jane Sansome, "They are superb and allow the children to relax and have a different perspective on life from a comfortable position-something we take for granted"
