Jamie H. - Cumbria

Update on Jamie who we helped in 2009........

We bought a laptop computer for Jamie H from Cumbria in 2009. Jamie is now 16 years old and we have just received this heartwarming update:

Dear Lifeline 4 Kids
I would just like to thank you again for your support, in 2009 you granted my Son Jamie Hiner a laptop and student office suite. He was at Windermere Junior School then and had been diagnosed as dyslexic.
The laptop plus specialist programs we were able to buy from the Dyslexia Association have had a big impact on helping Jamie. He was very poorly when he was 13 and home schooled for 6 months during this time Jamie used his laptop a lot. As he didn't improve the doctors referred him to CAHMS who realised Jamie was on the Autistic Spectrum and had him assessed. Then in August 2014 it was confirmed, school adjusted how they approached Jamie's education and things really began to improve.
Jamie took his GCSE's this summer and I wanted you to know the results because you helped Jamie achieve his results by providing the laptop.
His GCSE results were as follows; Product and Design A, History B, Art, English, Maths and Science all C's.
He starts college on Monday 7th September to study Carpentry and Joinery level 1 as he would like to make bespoke furniture. Over the summer he has built flat pack furniture for his bedroom, he hopes in the future to be able to design and build even better furniture.
College plan to teach Jamie how to use new and improved computer programs such as Dragon and Cortona. To try and give him more independence we hope to find him programmes to harness his art skills and design the furniture he hopes to make.
Anyway I just thought you should know, that a gift you gave to my son, has helped us cope and has been a gift that keeps giving.
Thank you and God bless you all,
Katie, Ian and Jamie Hiner.

It is rare for us to get words of appreciation particularly so many years after we helped. It is also gratifying to learn how much our help changed Jamie's life for the better and makes our work all the more worthwhile. Good Luck Jamie!

Here is the original story about Jamie from 2009:

10-year-old Jamie has dyslexia and his educational psychologist assessed that he would benefit greatly from the use of a laptop computer for use at home and at school.

Jamie's Mum managed to source and buy 3 recommended specialist programmes at a special discounted price and asked us to help by funding the cost of the computer.

We agreed to buy a laptop, which has now been delivered to Jamie. Jamie's caring Mum is liaising with his schoolteacher and has now written us a letter of thanks. Here is s short extract of what she said. "Thank you for helping Jamie, right now he is using this time to improve his spellings and typing skills. After SATs next week his class teacher says he can start taking his laptop into class. His reading and writing has improved, he is still behind his peers but everything we have done for him has made a marked improvement, his self esteem has been most noticeable. Thank you once again, we could never have afforded to buy Jamie this laptop." Lifeline 4 Kids wish Jamie good luck and look forward to being kept up to date with his progress.
